Today I started into a new book: The Art of the Commonplace by Wendell Berry.

The art of the commonplace – intriguing. Perhaps this suggests that the toil and ordinariness of our daily lives can be a work of art. That we can live our humble lives in ways that are truly beautiful and enduringly significant.

Commonplace – maybe this word refers more to our community and the land that we all share and glean nourishment from.

After reading the introduction, already I sense the rightness of the vision in this book. It will, I believe, convince me more of the importance of mindful living in the community and the land. Paying attention to creation.

“Clearly what is needed is the recovery of the sense that our lives are necessarily and beneficially tied to the well-being of the earth, that the earth and its inhabitants form one vast ‘commonplace.'”
