This evening I came home from the Co-op with: goat cheese and goat yogurt, apples, a beet, ginger root, an onion, an avocado, Ezekiel bread, and raw Lara bars. When I got out of the car, I heard someone clapping. Across the street, neighbor Bob was applauding. “Yay for reverse!” he shouted. It was indeed a moment to celebrate, for I had backed my new manual car – uphill – into a parking space. Bob has witnessed many of my harried attempts and failures thus far.

A line for Austen’s Pride and Prejudice comes to mind: “For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh at them in our turn?”
